Wawa once categorized
as a C-store than called a Full Service Convenience Store, evolved into a Non-traditional food retailer
now must be called a Casual Dining Restaurant TO-GO. Wawa has indeed assumed an
industry leading roll as a fresh food merchant.
You will find no Roller Grill at Wawa, no stale Coffee, you will find
high quality ready-2-eat and heat-N-eat fresh prepared food.
In 2012 Wawa entered
the Florida market for the first time with its first 5 units. Wawa President
and CEO Chris Gheysens speaking recently stated that Wawa intends to open an
additional 25 units in Florida during 2013 most will be located in the
Tampa-Orlando markets.
Gheysens stated “We
are so glad to be a part of the Orlando community, adding hundreds of new
associates to the Wawa family and serving our new Florida friends and neighbors
with our fresh and inviting food service offer." Fresh Food is top of mind within Wawa’s
company Focus and in the minds-eye of the consumer.
Assuming a
traditional food retail leadership roll Wawa announced at the opening of thier
next unit in Apopka, FL the grand opening event will include local officials,
members of the Second Harvest Food Bank and community members participating in
a ribbon cutting ceremony. There will also be a hoagie-building contest
featuring the Apopka Police Department and the Apopka Fire and Rescue.
Wawa with
25 stores in 2013, is just getting started they will open 25 stores in
2014 and 25 stores in 2015 and projects it will open 100 stores in Florida
within the next five years. The new stores will each employ more than 50

I have heard so many great things about Wawa from customers. I have not had a chance to try them out since they came to Orlando, but hope to soon. I will have to go hungry!
