When
Starbucks announced that its
partnership with Lyft was expanding so that it allowed
customers the chance to earn more Rewards stars if they use the ride service as
part of their morning commutes it was another example that shows how Starbucks continues to look a
customer ahead.
Until
Nov. 9, Starbucks Rewards members can earn 5 stars each time they use Lyft
between the hours of 5 and 10 a.m., with a cap of one ride per hour. In
addition, those using Lyft for the first time can earn 125 stars for that
initial ride.
In-addition
Starbucks plans to sell $20 Lyft gift cards at select stores, tacking on a $5
Starbucks card for purchasing patrons as an added bonus. This is particularly inviting for Millennials
who have adopted and driven the success of ride-sharing in many urban markets.
The
Starbucks' partnership with Lyft was announced last year and at the time, CEO Howard
Schultz noted
that the brand's baristas could gain access to
cheap rides to
work via the service. Expanding the service to customers was a natural
line item extension that will prove successful for both companies, employees,
and customers.
