Foodservice Relevance Evolving from Grocer to Fresh Fast

When the customers move retailers must move with them and that is just what Martin’s Super Markets announced when they revealed their first-ever convenience store in South Bend, Indiana. Dubbed Martin’s Express, this location is the company’s first foray into the convenience store format and its second small format store.

Martin’s Express will focus on Ready-2-Eat, fresh foods, including a wide variety of fresh sandwiches, wraps, and salads. According a Martin’s spokesperson “the store will hold several designated food bars as well as an eat-in seating area for those who wish to eat inside the store. Convenience grocery, dairy, frozen, and automotive supplies will also be available”.

Martin’s is simply getting fresh as they continue to focus on grocerant niche Ready-2-Eat and Heat-N-Eat fresh food.  This in May 2015,  Martin’s opened a store half the size of the company's usual stores and one that has a more neighborhood grocer feel to it with incremental grocerant niche offerings and was received well by consumers according to the team at
Foodservice Soltuions®.

Phil Plummer, Vice President of Martin’s Supermarkets Sales and Marketing, Stated “At Martin’s Express, we’ve assembled a group of specialists who will be dedicated from day one to presenting the best, freshest, and highest quality favorites shoppers have asked us to offer.” Fresh prepared food continues to drive customer migration from channel to channel and concept to concept according to Foodservice Solutions® Grocerant Guru®.
