Once you garner a 20%+ year over year sales gain on one new menu item, trying to duplicate that becomes a requirement not an option.  In the case of Popeyes while its chicken sandwich has become the industry standard.  The menu development team has gone fishing for the next great sandwich and this time they have caught a Flounder and hope it can build incremental sales during lent within its sandwich category according to Steven Johnson, Grocerant Guru® at Tacoma, WA based Foodservice Solutions®.

Here is what you get this time; Popeyes Cajun Flounder Sandwich is served atop the same buttery toasted brioche bun with barrel cured pickles from the Chicken Sandwich, along with Popeyes tartar sauce.

So, following the success of the Popeyes Chicken Sandwich, the Cajun brand is once again raising the bar on sandwich standards with its new launch, the Cajun Flounder Sandwich. Starting Thursday, February 11, Popeyes new Cajun Flounder Sandwich will be available in restaurants and for delivery nationwide for $4.49.

Seeking trial, Popeyes wants its new Cajun Flounder Sandwich too re-set your standards and expectations of a quick service fish sandwich that they are guaranteeing you will love it by launching Sandwich Insurance. Yes, Insurance to drive trial.  Customers who order the new Cajun Flounder Sandwich and don’t like it, Popeyes will replace it with the Chicken Sandwich for free with purchase of insurance on launch day. Once again when you go fishing you have to set the HOOK. Ah, insurance sets the hook, the fall back is the best chicken sandwich in the industry.


Once again, the new Cajun Flounder Sandwich includes four ingredients—the fried filet is served atop the same buttery toasted brioche bun with barrel cured pickles from the Chicken Sandwich, along with Popeyes tartar sauce.

The flounder is caught in the icy waters of the Pacific (could have been my back year), Popeyes flounder filet is light, flakey and seasoned in a blend of the Louisiana brand’s Cajun seasoning. Dusted in a crispy southern coating and fried up golden brown, the Cajun Flounder Sandwich delivers the flavor and crunch one would expect to find at a local dockside fish shack.
