Driving top line sales and bottom-line profits today requires that you have enough trained employees that show up for work every day according to Steven Johnson, Grocerant Guru® at Tacoma, WA based Foodservice Solutions®.
The simple fact is that all of complaining about paying foodservice workers $15 an hour has reinforced that thinking in the minds-eye of the foodservice worker that their employer really does not care about them. Johnson, went on to say that restaurant owners, going to TV saying they can’t get any workers when they are offering them only part-time work without benefits will not help. In fact, it hurts the industry and that specific employer.
Employees want to know that they are
wanted, needed, and apricated. That
means they want to be given a path forward not a path to the next job. In fact, a recent survey from retail operations
platform Zipline finds that current retail employees
feel their company could be doing significantly more to keep their existing
workers from heading for the exit door.
Among the survey's findings:
·
42% of retail associates are considering
or planning to leave the industry.
·
24% of associates think retailers are
doing enough to retain talent and build the workforce they need.
·
52% of associates are satisfied in the
investment that stores are making in their professional development.
·
43% of associates said they don't feel
heard when making suggestions of in-store changes.
