based Foodservice Solutions® believes it is at the intersection of your mother’s
pantry and today’s pantry that you will find both Gen Z and Millennials seeking
fresh food discovery. It’s for that
reason alone that the meal kit industry will retool and thrive.
Now than, here are five reasons
why meal kits are a great option:
1. Convenience: Meal kits are a convenient
option for people who want to eat healthy and delicious meals without spending
too much time in the kitchen. They come with pre-measured ingredients and
easy-to-follow recipes, which makes cooking a breeze.
2. Variety: Meal kits offer a wide variety
of recipes to choose from, which means you can try new dishes and cuisines
without having to leave your home. This is especially helpful for people who
live in areas where there aren’t many restaurants or grocery stores.
3. Less Food Waste: Meal kits come with
pre-measured ingredients, which means you only get what you need for the
recipe. This helps reduce food waste and saves you money in the long run.
4. Healthier Eating: Meal kits are a great way to
eat healthier because they come with fresh ingredients and are
portion-controlled. This means you can avoid overeating and stick to a healthy
diet.
5. Learn New Cooking Skills: Meal kits are a great way to
learn new cooking skills and techniques. They come with step-by-step
instructions that are easy to follow, which means you can improve your cooking
skills while making delicious meals.

In
case you did not know, meal kit company FreshRealm
has acquired rival Marley Spoon for $24 million. FreshRealm will integrate all of Marley
Spoon’s U.S. and supply chain infrastructure into its own business network, the
company said. That includes Marley Spoon’s three production and fulfillment
facilities in Newark, N.J., Tracy, Cali., and Dallas, Texas.
Meanwhile,
Marley Spoon is in the process of acquiring bistroMD, a health-focused food as
medicine subscription service. Once the transactions are completed, FreshRealm
will fulfill orders for all of Marley Spoon’s brands – bistroMD, Martha &
Marley Spoon, and Dinnerly.
FreshRealm
said the acquisition will allow the company to diversify its offerings and
enjoy the benefits of operating at scale at a fraction of the cost.
Michael
Lippold, founder and CEO of FreshRealm,
stated, “This strategic partnership with Marley Spoon marks a milestone for
FreshRealm in shaping the future of the Fresh Meals solutions space and
transforming this $900 billion market,” … “We are thrilled to empower meal
providers like Marley Spoon and bistroMD with what they need to deliver on
scale and efficiency.”
This
acquisition comes at a time of major change in the meal kit industry. In
November, delivery food hall company Wonder Group closed on its acquisition of
meal kit pioneer Blue Apron for $103 million. Blue Apron was the first
meal kit company to go public, launching its IPO in June 2017.
Regular
readers of this blog know that much of Blue Apron’s operational assets were
sold for $25 million to FreshRealm in June of 2023, including its fulfillment
centers and equipment, the company said at the time of the transaction.
“Blue
Apron and FreshRealm also entered into a
production and fulfillment agreement with an initial term of 10 years, under
which FreshRealm will be the exclusive supplier of Blue Apron’s meal kits,”
Blue Apron said in June of 2023.
