Conversations,
mumblings, and rumors abound about Amazon becoming the leader in Internet
‘Search” driven by it success of Amazon Prime.
However, the next driver for Amazon’s success just may well be answering
the call “What’s for dinner?”
Regular readers of this blog know we
have documented Amazon as it has tested, ‘Spotlight’ (restaurant delivery) in search of a greater share of
stomach. With little fanfare this week
Amazon announced that it is testing a renewed effort and entrance into a
food-delivery service, starting in Seattle.
Amazon informed USA Today that it “is
testing restaurant delivery in select areas of its hometown for members of its
Prime Now service. Prime Now is an
additional benefit of Amazon Prime only available in 10 cities, including
Portland, Ore., and Seattle, offering one-hour delivery on orders for
$7.99 or two-hour delivery for free. Amazon Prime is a $99-a-year
program that gets you free two-day shipping and access to video and music streaming”…
Amazon Prime Now customers will be able
to “browse menus and place orders with participating local Seattle restaurants
via the Prime Now app and get their food within an hour or less. Delivery is
also free for a limited time. Amazon has not responded to questions
about what delivery will eventually cost or whether it plans to
expand into other markets.”
Legacy retailers might become nervous
as services like AmazonFresh, grocery deliver and now adding restaurant delivery puts
Amazon on track to compete with companies including GrubHub, Seamless and a
growing number of start-ups that provide restaurant delivery through apps.
Is food delivery the next big thing? Fresh prepared Ready-2-Eat and
Heat-N-Eat food has become the latest battleground for customers as chains
compete for market share and share of
stomach, with everyone from McDonald's to Chipotle starting to partner with
delivery apps like Postmates in select markets.
Is your restaurant prepared to have
Amazon delivery your food? Amazon is not
only one of the largest search engines in the world, it is one of the largest
marketing tool kits you can find today.
Success does leave clues and Amazon Fresh and Amazon Restaurant food
delivered are to great clues.
