KFC is Getting Back into the Take-Out Game

Grocerant niche Ready-2-Eat and Heat-N-Eat fresh prepared food has been driving sales in every area of foodservice for the past 6 years according to Foodservice Solutions®, Grocerant Guru®.  Everyone knows KFC has be touted by our own Grocerant Guru® as one of the first grocerant concepts.  There are more than 18,000 KFC outlets in 115 countries and territories around the world. You also know that we have repeatedly asked what happened, how did they lose their way?

With a new CEO  Greg Creed at the helm of Yum Brands Creed is propelling change, evolving each brand and with KFC’s Nashville Hot Chicken  that is scheduled to roll out to all 4,300 restaurants US nationwide on Monday, including a first-ever tailgate platter, in time for the run up to the Super Bowl Creed has KFC taking center stage once again in the grocerant niche.

KFC chain has been testing its new spicy Nashville Hot Chicken at 32 restaurants in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area and said it has been the most successful product test in the company’s recent history. After years of trying to push lower calorie, low fat skinless, tasteless chicken someone in marketing must have started readying our blog  and decided to give consumers what they wanted and did not want to cook at home.  Spicy full flavored fried chicken.

In a press release the chain’s said “Extra Crispy chicken forms the base for the Hot Chicken recipe, which includes a Nashville hot sauce glaze spiked with cayenne and paprika. The result is a “perfect combination of spicy, smoky and crispy,”  The chicken is served with the traditional pickles, along with a biscuit and coleslaw, which helps cool the resulting slow burn from the fiery chicken.

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen has been garnering new customers, chicken market share selling spicy fresh fried chicken all the while KFC was fumbling with ‘better for you’ variety. Now with advertising to support the launch is scheduled to begin on today during the NFL Playoffs, and a 24-piece tailgate platter of tenders KFC is front and center in the grocerant niche with Ready-2-Eat and Heat-N-Eat fresh prepared food that can be picked up, delivered in many areas, and order On-line in many North America locations.

Success does leave clues and we congratulate Greg Creed and his team at KFC on what our team at Foodservice Solutions® believes will be a very successful promotion.
