Fresh Food 24/7 Fuels Growth at Casey’s General Store

When the customer moves retailers move with them.  At Casey’s General stores there is no doubt that success is driven by evolving the convenience concept to meet the need-set of today’s customers.  That is how Casey’s has now grown to over 1,954 stores.

Casey’s CEO Terry Handley stated that at the end of the third quarter, the company had 100 sites under agreement for acquisition. So just what is fueling the growth at Casey’s? Foodservice Solutions® Grocerant Guru® stated “Casey’s ability to integrated retail relevance with technology and grocerant niche Ready-2-Eat and Heat-N-Eat fresh prepared food.

Handley noted that “Casey's remains laser-focused on the expansion of its 24-hour format and pizza delivery stores, as well its mobile app and online ordering. Year to date, the retailer has converted 89 locations to the 24-hour format and 134 stores to the pizza delivery format. In total, Casey's has 997 stores open 24 hours and 552 that deliver pizza.”

Handley continued "We believe our mobile app was a great first step into ongoing digital engagement with our consumers. As we head into fiscal 2018, we'll be very focused on increasing these efforts."…”The total number of pizza orders completed online climbed 13 percent and increased the basket ring of an online order by more than 20 percent vs. a telephone order. We are optimistic that contribution will continue to grow as the number of downloads of our mobile app increases,"

Flavor is key too driving incremental ordering and trial according to our own Grocerant Guru®.  Casey’s has new pizza flavor profiles on deck for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2017 or early in fiscal 2018.  Just like the consumer Casey’s is dynamic not static and is testing is take-and-bake pizza, which the company intends to test in fiscal 2018.
