Papa Murphy’s Plans to Triple the Number of Units

The state of the Grocerant niche Ready-2-Eat and Heat-N-Eat fresh prepared food marketplace is strong.  So strong that Papa Murphy’s the largest Take 'N' Bake pizza chain in the United States selling uncooked pizzas that customers bake at home announced that it plans to triple the number of stores.

Papa Murphy’s CEO Ken Calwell stated, "We have a real opportunity to at least triple the number of fresh take and bake pizza stores that we have in the U.S. to at least 4,500 stores.”

Calwell went on to announce that they were “divesting our interest in Project Pie” citing its recent performance and a decision to concentrate on its core business. Wow is that telling.  First it tell us that Blaze pizza is on fire.  Second, it tell us that the Grocerant niche Ready-2-Eat and Heat-N-Eat pizza market place is strong.

How strong?  On Monday Calwell said “Papa Murphy’s same-store sales rose 5.6 percent in the first quarter ended March 30,” Looking back we think for that time period that pretty good.  Focusing on the core Ready-2-Eat and Heat-N-Eat fresh prepared products will help drive continue same store sale growth, new unit openings, and customer adoption according to our own Grocerant Guru™
