McDonald's Grab-N-Go Shows Growth

 


Grocerant niche Ready-2-Eat and Heat-N-Eat fresh prepared food has driven growth in every sector of retail foodservice for the past 14 years according to Nielsen data.  While Dunkin has been very successful in store with new grab-n-go fresh food McDonald’s has largely stood back and watched according to Steven Johnson, Grocerant Guru® at Tacoma, WA based Foodservice Solutions®.

Maybe it’s because they were stifled themselves with Boston Market, and Chipotle according to Johnson. Boston Market now has a third fewer units (an internal leadership problem) that they did with they were under McDonalds wings, but Chipotle, well what can anyone one say except, success does leave clues.

Now remember in our vernacular this are grocerant niche Ready-2-Eat items and for the first time in eight years, McDonald’s is adding a line of new baked goods to its core menu: an Apple Fritter, a Blueberry Muffin and a Cinnamon Roll.

The Baked Apple Pie and Chocolate Chip Cookie on the McCafe menu, which also includes an assortment of hot and cold coffee beverages my friends that apple pie has been there since 1968. The last baked good added to McDonald’s core menu was the introduction of cookies in 2012. 

Linda VanGosen, vice president of brand and menu strategy at McDonald’s USA stated, "We’re continuing our breakfast innovation by adding tasty new sweet options with our new McCafé Bakery lineup,".  We know our customers deserve a break now more than ever, and are excited to give them another reason to visit their favorite breakfast destination by offering delicious flavors they crave, any time of the day.”
