Domino's Hand-Held Marketing Works

 


Regular readers of this blog know that back in the day service mattered and all restaurant marketers were worried about the ‘veto’ vote.  That is the one person in a party of four that did not like seafood, beef, or Thai for example.

Just what is a marketer going to do?  Sit back and let customers migrate? Or are you going to edify your price, value, service equilibrium? Consumers want more convenience.  The ability of ordering a delicious meal from your car, but without waiting in long drive-thru lines, does just that.  Now Domino's Pizza Inc. has you covered! The largest pizza company in the world is giving customers a new and more efficient way to order while on the go: via Domino's iOS app on Apple CarPlay.

So, now consumers have two ordering options via Domino's app on CarPlay: "Tap to Order" or "Call to Order." Tap to Order lets customers submit their saved Easy Order or one of their most recent orders, while "Call to Order" allows them to place the order of their choice, hands-free, by talking to a customer service representative.

Christopher Thomas-Moore, Domino's senior vice president – chief digital officer, stated, "Domino's has been known as the industry leader when it comes to pizza and technology, and we're constantly striving to continue providing the best experience to customers. That's why we launched Domino's app on CarPlay," says. "We know how frustrating it can be to wait in a drive-thru line just to place an order. Domino's app on CarPlay is a great alternative to that, as customers still have the convenience of staying in their car, and can place an order from wherever they are, without waiting in a long drive-thru. It's yet another way we're bringing more ease and ordering options to customers across the U.S."

How Does It Work?   Ordering Domino's via CarPlay is easy! To do so, customers simply need to:

·         Download Domino's iPhone app

·         Log into their Pizza Profile

·         Have a saved Easy Order or recently placed order (in order to use "Tap to Order")

·         Select Domino's app on Apple CarPlay and voila! Ordering is at your fingertips.

 


In case you did not know, Domino's is the first pizza company and one of the first quick service restaurant brands in the U.S. to offer easy on-the-go ordering via CarPlay. In addition to placing an order via Domino's on CarPlay, customers can also track the status of their order via Domino's Tracker. Domino's app on CarPlay is the brand's newest AnyWare ordering platform – a suite of technology that allows customers to order from wherever they are, using whatever device they prefer. Other AnyWare ordering platforms include ordering via Apple Watch or with an emoji via text.

At Domino’s Success Clues are Free

Domino's is doing a very good job driving customer attention and industry BUZZ. 

Success does leave clues and Domino’s Pizza has picked up more then their fair share.  Fresh food fast is a success clue that Domino’s continues to deliver on while maintaining pizza industry standards for consistency and service according to Steven Johnson, Grocerant Guru® at Tacoma, WA based Foodservice Solutions®.

While Millennials and Gen Z consumers seek out food discovery experiences, Domino’s elevates customer relevance with service and new product introductions along with other surprises; and are better than others.

For consumers one disappointing surprise is when customers are charged unexpected fees when ordering from some food delivery apps, especially when all they wanted was food delivered at a great value. Don’t worry, Domino's Pizza, listens to consumers wants and needs and is responding with a better kind of surprise: Surprise Frees.

What is that? So, Domino’s is surprising randomly selected customers across the U.S. with free menu items now through November 21 when they order delivery online. The Surprise Free menu items include Hand Tossed Pizzas, Boneless Chicken, Handmade Pan Pizzas, Stuffed Cheesy Bread, Crunchy Thin Crust Pizzas and Chocolate Lava Crunch Cakes. What Surprise Frees?  Free Food of course.  Kind of a dumb name but between now and November 21, 2021 consumers will reap the reward. 

So, Gen Z and Millennials looking for food discover will have a great chance of finding it at Domino’s according to Johnson. One more time, Domino's is surprising randomly selected customers across the U.S. with free menu items now through Nov. 21, 2021 when they order delivery online. The Surprise Free menu items include Hand Tossed Pizzas, Boneless Chicken, Handmade Pan Pizzas, Stuffed Cheesy Bread, Crunchy Thin Crust Pizzas and Chocolate Lava Crunch Cakes. 

Russell Weiner, chief operations officer and president – Domino's U.S.  stated, "Domino's is giving away more than 5 million Surprise Free items – up to $50 million in free food – because Surprise Frees are way better than surprise fees," …"Unlike many third-party food delivery apps, Domino's provides customers with one straightforward delivery fee, because we know that's what customers want and deserve. There are no hidden city or service fees with Domino's, as we've been working to provide the best delivery experience at the best value to customers for more than 60 years, and that's not stopping any time soon."

Here is how it works: Domino's delivery customers who order online are eligible to receive a Surprise Free. Domino's will notify each customer who is randomly selected for a Surprise Free through their order confirmation page and in their order confirmation email. Domino's stores will also place a Surprise Frees sticker on the box of the free menu item. Customers are encouraged to celebrate and share the news of their Surprise Frees by using #FreesNotFees on social media.
