Popeyes Grocerant Game Day Bundle Instant Classic

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen has once again proven its knack for capturing consumer excitement and taste preferences with the launch of its new Game Day Bundle, an instant classic aimed at playoff season gatherings according to Steven Johnson Grocerant Guru® at Tacoma, WA based Foodservice Solutions®. Drawing from its rich heritage of flavorful, Cajun-inspired meals and strategic bundling, the quick-service restaurant has set the stage for this latest offering to resonate with a wide range of consumers.

Historical Success Drives Consumer Connection

Founded in 1972 in Arabi, Louisiana, Popeyes has built its reputation on bold, flavorful offerings that celebrate the culinary traditions of Louisiana. From its iconic fried chicken to its beloved biscuits, Popeyes has historically leaned into its deep Southern roots to stand apart in the competitive quick-service landscape. Over the past five decades, the brand has continually innovated, introducing signature dishes and promotions that align with consumer trends. This latest Game Day Bundle is no exception, seamlessly blending affordability, convenience, and flavor.

Four Reasons the Game Day Bundle Will Resonate:

1.       Value for Group Dining:

o    At $24.99, the bundle delivers 24 wings, three regular sides, and four dipping sauces—a cost-effective solution for feeding a crowd. In a time when consumers are seeking more bang for their buck amid economic pressures, this bundle hits the sweet spot for value-conscious families and groups.

2.       Convenience Meets Customization:

o    The mix-and-match nature of the bundle—allowing consumers to select their preferred sides and dipping sauces—caters to diverse preferences within households or watch-party groups. In today’s grocerant age, where blending the convenience of restaurant-quality meals with home-based dining is key, Popeyes positions itself perfectly as the go-to choice.

3.       Innovative New Flavor Appeal:

o    The launch of Louisiana Garlic wings as part of this promotion showcases Popeyes’ ability to innovate while staying true to its roots. The garlic-infused buttery sauce reflects the authentic Cajun culinary traditions that make New Orleans a food mecca. This seasonal and regional nod heightens the flavor appeal during the pivotal Super Bowl season, when wings dominate game day spreads.

4.       Cultural and Social Relevance:

o    With New Orleans hosting its 11th Super Bowl next month, Popeyes’ Louisiana-inspired promotion feels especially relevant. Aligning the brand with major cultural and sports events—a practice it has honed over the years—helps amplify its visibility and relevance in the market. Consumers are drawn to brands that connect them to larger experiences, and Popeyes leverages this trend expertly.

Driving Growth and Future Opportunities

Beyond the Game Day Bundle, Popeyes continues to expand its global footprint. As a division of Restaurant Brands International Inc. (RBI), Popeyes boasts 3,465 restaurants worldwide as of September 2024. The brand’s commitment to international growth is exemplified by its recent partnership to open 500 locations in Brazil, a testament to the enduring popularity of its flavorful menu offerings.

The introduction of the Game Day Bundle underscores Popeyes’ strategic approach to growth through innovation. As consumer preferences shift toward ready-to-eat and heat-and-eat meals with authentic global flavors, Popeyes stays ahead by embracing a grocerant-style model that blends affordability, convenience, and culinary authenticity.

This season, Popeyes has served a touchdown with its Game Day Bundle, demonstrating why it remains a leader in the quick-service sector. Whether gathering for the playoffs or simply indulging in bold, satisfying flavors, consumers know they can count on Popeyes to deliver.

Dunkin’ Exemplifies How Brands Edify Customer Relevance

The consumer is dynamic not static, and Dunkin’, founded in 1950, is the largest coffee and donuts brand in the United States, with more than 13,200 restaurants in nearly 40 global markets is more customer relevant today than ever according to Steven Johnson Grocerant Guru® at Tacoma, WA based Foodservice Solutions®.

Dunkin’s Customer-focused marketing is a strategic approach that prioritizes the needs and satisfaction of customers. It revolves around creating a company culture dedicated to enhancing customer experiences and building strong relationships with them. Here are some key points about what Johnson thinks Dunkin’s customer-focused marketing is doing right:

1.       Definition: Customer-focused marketing puts the customers’ needs first. It involves actively listening to customer feedback, providing excellent customer service, and delivering personalized experiences.

2.       Importance:

o    High Standards: Customers now have higher expectations for service, especially after the challenges of the past year.

o    Sales Boost: Companies that offer preferred customer service channels and personalized experiences can drive more sales.

o    Churn Prevention: A lack of customer focus can lead to customer churn. Even one bad customer service experience can prompt customers to switch to a competitor.

3.       Examples of Customer Focus:

o    Good Customer Service: Prompt, helpful, and friendly interactions with customers.

o    Feedback Implementation: Actively using customer feedback to improve products and services.

o    Personalized Experiences: Tailoring interactions to individual preferences.

4.       Benefits of Customer-Focused Marketing:

o    Loyalty: Building loyal relationships with customers encourages repeat business.

o    Efficiency: Efficient marketing campaigns with targeted messaging keep costs down.

o    Agility: Connecting with customers when they’re ready to take action makes businesses more agile.

o    Differentiation: Offering personalized offerings sets a brand apart in the marketplace12.

To that point, in the latest installment of a series of commercials for the Canton, Ben Affleck stars as a member of the parody band, The DunKings.

The DunKings Iced Coffee is Affleck’s go-to order, and now it is available for fans to order off the official Dunkin’ menu. The Ben Affleck beverage features classic iced coffee with notes of vanilla, combined with cream, and topped with sweet cold foam and a dusting of cinnamon sugar. The second item featured in the commercial, Munchkin skewers, are three assorted munchkins on a skewer, meant to look like the olives in a martini. Both items will be available for a limited time starting Feb. 12.

Additional menu items included in the drop that are available only on the Dunkin’ app include:

·         Everything Encore Breakfast Sandwich: Everything Bagel with sweet black pepper seasoned bacon, white cheddar cheese, and egg.

·         Hazelnut Heartthrob Iced Coffee: Hot or iced coffee blended with sweet caramel, notes of hazelnut, and whole milk.

·         Mixed Berry Beats Dunkin’ Refresher: Strawberry Dragonfruit Dunkin’ Refresher with an extra shot of raspberry flavor.

The first Dunkin’ commercials were created after images of Affleck holding an iced Dunkin’ coffee with a somber expression went viral online. Eagle-eyed viewers started compiling copies of these photos as Affleck went on his daily Dunkin’ run. Now these new commercials edified Dunkin’ with both new and old customers and even a few football fans.

So, Gen Z and Millennials Relate Well to Popeyes

Popeyes Chicken, the classic fast-food chain that has been serving spicy, New Orleans style chicken since 1972, has recently experienced a surge of popularity among younger generations. Steven Johnson Grocerant Guru® at Tacoma, WA based Foodservice Solutions® believes that customer focused relevant messaging including a Super Bowl ad will drive continued engagement.

So, let’s look at some of the reasons why, a viral marketing campaign that sparked a social media frenzy over its new chicken sandwich.

The chicken sandwich, which was launched in August 2019, quickly sold out in two weeks, as customers lined up to try the crispy, juicy, and flavorful product. Popeyes cleverly ignited a Twitter war with its rival Chick-fil-A, which claimed to have the original and superior chicken sandwich. The online debate drew in millions of users, who posted memes, videos, and reviews of the sandwiches, creating a massive amount of free publicity for Popeyes.

According to Apex Marketing, the social media explosion generated approximately $65 million in equivalent ad revenue for Popeyes, based on the number of impressions and mentions it received across various platforms. Popeyes also gained more followers on Twitter in a single week than it had in two years, reaching a wider and younger audience.

The success of the chicken sandwich was not just a one-time phenomenon. Popeyes has continued to capitalize on its momentum by launching new products, such as the Cajun Flounder Sandwich and the Blackened Chicken Sandwich, that appeal to the taste preferences of Gen Z and Millennials. These generations are known for their love of spicy food, constant snacking, and adventurous eating habits. Popeyes has also leveraged its brand identity as a fun, authentic, and culturally diverse chain that resonates with the values and aspirations of these generations.

Popeyes has proven that viral marketing can be a powerful tool to attract and retain customers, especially in the highly competitive and saturated fast-food industry. By creating a buzz-worthy product, engaging with its fans and critics on social media, and staying true to its roots, Popeyes has established itself as a leader in the chicken sandwich category and a favorite among Gen Z and Millennials.

Yes, Popeyes has unveiled its first-ever Super Bowl commercial featuring actor, writer, and comedian Ken Jeong trying the famous brands’ new Wings for the first time.

This funny commercial is based on Jeong, who cryogenically froze himself 52 years ago waiting for the best-ever wing to be created. Jeong is unfrozen to discover Popeyes has permanently launched Wings in five delicious flavors – along with many other changes from 52 years ago, including drones, driverless cars, scooters, and new breeds of doodle dogs.

The advertisement was created by Popeyes in partnership with its creative agency, McKinney, and was directed by filmmaker and MTV Video Music and Grammy Award Winner Calmatic, who is well known for directing movies like House Party and White Men Can’t Jump.

Sami Siddiqui, President of Popeyes North America, stated, “Football and Wings is the all-American pairing, so we couldn’t think of a better time to go all-in on launching our new wing line up than during the Super Bowl,” … “Ken Jeong is a comedic genius who really makes this commercial a lot of fun to watch.”

Popeyes new wings in five delicious flavors are available nationwide starting at $5.99 for 6-pieces:

·         Ghost Pepper: The perfect balance of flavor and fire.

·         Sweet ‘N Spicy: A sweet and spicy blend of chili, garlic and ginger.

·         Honey BBQ Wings: Tangy and sweet, like a good BBQ should be.

·         Roasted Garlic Parmesan: The perfect blend of roasted garlic and parmesan cheese.

·         Signature Hot: Nice and spicy with just a dash of southern sweetness
