Fresh Food is ‘Better for You’

When the consumer moves, retailers must move with them.  Today Ready-2-Eat and Heat-N-Eat grocerant niche fresh prepared food is garnering more attention.  Foodservice Solutions® Grocerant Guru™ stated “consumers are dynamic not static, and history has proven consumers never like taking steps backward.”

Grocery stores are in the throes of footprint malaise.  Over the course of the past five years or so they have witnessed sales growth in “fresh departments (meat, deli, produce, bakery, and seafood)  surpassing that of center-store mainstays (including dry and frozen grocery) according to Nielsen.

In fact over just  the “past four years, U.S. fresh food sales have increased 5%, along with consumer buzz and interest in eating and living well. In fact, according to a recent Nielsen Global Health and Wellness report, a significant portion of respondents interested in losing weight report doing so by eating more fresh foods and even using such foods as medicine.”
