Panera Bread the Status Quo no More

Doing the same thing over and over garners the same results.  When those results are not quite a rosy as they once were its time to evolve according to Tacoma, WA based Foodservice Solutions® Grocerant Guru® who says the customer is dynamic not static and retailer must be dynamic as well.
Panera Bread has found a new location that expands the brand with customer relevance while driving top line sales and bottom line profits.  Panera Bread reported that digital sales, including mobile, web, and kiosk, surpassed $1 billion on an annualized basis and explained that the company expects that too hit $2 Billion in digital sales in 2019.
Ron Shaich, Panera’s founder, chairman, and CEO stated “By building digital into the core aspects of our business, we’ve transformed the customer journey at Panera,” …“For us, it’s not just about new technology for technology’s sake—it’s about making the guest experience better.”
Panera understands the consumer’s adoption of mobile technology has puts a Panera Bread in the palm of the hand of everyone with a smart phone.  Currently Panera says digital sales account for 26% of total company sales at the end of the first quarter. When broken down, that’s close to 1.2 million digital orders per week. The information superhighway has become a Mobile Hot Spot.
The new avenue of distribution is not a highway but a Mobile Hot Spot will help edify Panera’s food delivery program that they told CNBC it forecasts delivery adding $250,000 per year to each store’s annual revenue of $2.6 million.  Panera’s 2.0 program was first introduced in 2014, as has since grown to include Rapid Pickup, Fast Lane Kiosks, as well as improved catering and delivery efforts.
Blaine Hurst, Panera’s president stated “When you couple digital innovation with operational integrity, the result is a significant level of digital adoption at the guest level. Our holistic approach to technology pushes us to find new ways to make a difference in the lives of guests, which translates to the kinds of sales we’re seeing today,”
