Convenience stores Fresh Food Showdown from Sheetz too Wawa

This week on www.Pennlive.com  I would like you to participate or at minimum follow Sue Gleiter as she tracks consumer’s fondness, attraction, and loyalty for high quality, industry leading conveniences store food. Here is the link: http://www.pennlive.com/food/index.ssf/2014/06/sheetz_rutters_turkey_hill_waw.html See links below for daily up-dates.

In the Northeastern part of the United States Convenience stores are the new restaurants according to Gleiter.  Regular readers of this blog know that Foodservice Solutions® Grocerant Guru™ has repeatedly insisted that Convenience Stores have become Grocerants and are preferred over restaurants.  However for this week I will concur with Gleiter that Convenience stores are the new restaurants.

The number one difference between the two sectors for five years in a row is that the Convenience store sector has continued to grow both top line sales and customers counts, while the restaurant sector is struggling with top line growth and continues to capitulate customers.

Here is some of what Gleiter has said “Increasingly, shoppers aren't just pumping gas or buying cigarettes at the corner store. They're stopping for breakfast, lunch or dinner.Possibly, it's because convenience stores are thinking more like fast food restaurants and stepping up their offerings of made-to-order eats.”

Ok, you get it she sounds like she has been following Foodservice Solutions® Grocerant Guru™ for years and reading industry leading articles about the rise of the Grocerant. Again I urge you to follow PennLive entertainment reporter Sue Gleiter and Julia Hatmaker as the set out on our own journey – a kind of tour de convenience stores.  They slurped smoothies and frappes and bite into hot dogs, burgers, subs and some off-the-wall foods.  It should be fun and insightful.
