Foodservice Solutions® Grocerant Guru™ stated “consumers focus on fresh
prepared Ready-2-Eat and Heat-N-Eat perceived as ‘Better for you’ driving the
booming success of the Grocerant niche.”
Food industry icon and NPD analyst Bonnie Riggs stated that consumers’
definition of healthful food has broadened. It’s less about removing negatives
or adding positives, and more about simply eating real food.”
According
to Winning Back Health-Conscious Consumers, a new report from NPD,
“healthy” is the No. 1 characteristic that consumers across all segments and
nearly all demographics want to see more of on restaurant menus. Whether
explicitly or implicitly stated, the survey reveals that consumers are seeking
food that is “real.”
While Consumers' perception of 'healthful' broadens according to our
Grocerant Guru™ “ it’s not just about the definition of ‘healthful’ or a shift to simply eating unaltered foods; it is
about that halo of convenience in meal assembly, family meal customization,
personalization, mix & match meal component bundling that consumer find
‘better for you’ today.
The
NPD report found that “Today, 57 percent of American consumers are concerned
about GMOs, an increase from just 46 percent a decade ago” however the key
drivers of food sales success are found in the halo of ‘better for you’
according to our own Grocerant Guru®.
While
some talk about the need for food to be ‘craveable’ Foodservice Solutions® team
and Grocerant Guru™ think and stated “the notion of ‘craveable’ food is more an
ideal goal rather than practical objective for a restaurant menu or LTO. The
key driver to food sales centers around the ‘halo’ of ‘better for you’ and
current customer relevant attributes.”
