Supermarket Fresh Food Must Look Good

Fresh prepared Ready-2-Eat and Heat-N-Eat grocerant niche food must taste great but just an importantly it must ‘look good’ according to Foodservice Solutions® Grocerant Guru™.  Visceral attractiveness of fresh prepared food in a grocery store setting is equivalent to plate appearance in a restaurant to a consumer according to Foodservice Solutions® Grocerant Scoreboard team leader.

When consumers are in your grocery stores looking at grocerant niche Ready-2-Eat or Heat-N-Eat fresh food, appearance and presentation are everything.  Today grocery stores lack the ability to viscerally link in store displays with mobile sales applications to drive sales but we believe that will be next.  Why?

Facts tell the story in a recent study by King Retail Solutions found “Groceries and fresh prepared meals were least likely to be purchased online for in-store pickup.” The same study found that “In the past 12 months, 62 percent of shoppers had purchased some groceries from a nontraditional grocery retailer and 92 percent would consider doing so in the coming 12 months.”  so much for all of the grocery store loyalty cards.

The one bright spot for grocery retailers for the study was “Groceries dominate top places to buy fresh meals that aren’t restaurants.”   Don’t let your fresh prepared food become a default option.  Consumers want it.  They are willing to inconveniently stop in your store for it.  If it taste good, looks good, and is priced good consumers will buy and return and buy more.
