Success
does leave clues and as regular readers of this blog know Portability is an
integral part of Foodservice Solutions® Grocerant Guru’s Five P’s of Grocerant
Marketing. The simple facts are consumers continue to be
time starved, lack the desire to cook from scratch, and 50% of adults over the
age of 18 are single. So why would they
want to cook from scratch every meal for themselves?
Nielsen’s IRI unit recently
reviled that 46% of consumers globally say they try to spend as little time as
possible is side a grocery store. The National Restaurant Associations own Hudson Riehle said this year during the
NRA Show Young consumers kinda want drone delivery: 40% 18-34 said that they
would order pizza delivered by drone.
Then
there was the NPD Group that found
“Visits to quick service restaurants, which represent 79 percent of total
industry traffic, were up 1 percent, while full service restaurant traffic,
representing 21 percent of total visits, declined. They noted that breakfast
occasions, in- and away-from-home, are forecast to grow by 5 percent through
2019” that means that 79% of restaurant industry traffic is designed to be
portable.
Portability
of fresh prepared food is key to grocerant niche customer adoption. Hand Held Food, Ready-2-Eat and
Heat-N-Eat fresh prepared meals and meal components are a key driver in the
undercurrents of change evolving within the retail foodservice sector
today. There is little doubt now that success within the food industry
today can be traced back directly to Foodservice Solutions® 5 P’s food
marketing.
The
halo of ‘better for you’ is embodied within portability and successful
retailers have introduced ‘better for you’ products/menus with portability. Results of a Tufts University research
study
released in April 2016 found that 72 percent of fast-food meals and 63 percent
of full-service meals contained 600 clories or less, meaning they met
recommended calorie guidelines for children.
