Krystal
wants to be the fuel to drive you day and breakfast is where they want you to
start. Krystal wants to become you home
for breakfast fast fresh and full of flavor according to Steven Johnson
Grocerant Guru® at Tacoma, WA based Foodservice Solutions®.
The
breakfast day-part is the fuel to drive new
electricity into Krystal’s top line sales and bottom line profits according
to Johnson. In the minds-eye of Johnson,
there is one dominate element that will power success within retail foodservice
over the coming years.
Johnson calls it the new electricity that is
partnerships specifically strategic partnerships. The new
electricity must be very efficient for the supply and includes such things
as fresh food, sustainable oils, urban farming (produce, seafood, etc.),
autonomous delivery, cashier-less retail, cash-less payments, digital hand held
marketing.
Restaurant
companies the ilk of Krystal that want to survive the next generation of retail
must embrace the artificial intelligence revolution while simultaneously embracing fresh food that is portable. That
will require brands to embrace new fresh food partnerships more now than ever
before according to Johnson.
Alice
Crowder VP of Marketing for Krystal stated The breakfast wars among QSRs rage
on, so Krystal put out an LTO
that is “everything that’s best about breakfast in one bowl,” Portability is
key at Krystal as close to 70% of their customer traffic is drive-thru
according to Crowder.
All
of the the breakfast bowl—which is really more the size of a large cup—is
compact and designed to fit in a car’s cup holder. All the scramblers are sold
in these mini bowls, so the easy-to-carry packaging was already in-house.
Breakfast
is Krystal’s strongest and fastest-growing daypart, says Crowder, with traffic
increasing in midmorning as well. “Compared to other QSRs, Krystal indexes
higher for snackers,” she says, adding that customers are ordering the
scramblers for a snack or second breakfast. “We call this a mini daypart.” What
is your new electricity?
