Foodservice Solutions® regular blog readers know that our Grocerant Guru® Steven Johnson is based in the Pacific Northwest. There must be something in the water as industry leaders in the Northwest seem to have an understanding other’s have missed.
At the intersection of food customer migration from legacy food retailers to new non-traditional avenues of distribution Johnson, stated, Amazon Fresh, Amazon Go, Whole Foods are in the process of redefining the ‘Middle” of the retail food market. They are repositioning without getting noticed garnering new customer, with both new products, services, and pricing that most legacy grocery stores, chain restaurants, and C-stores are not equipped to compete with.”
Consider just what other key industry leaders from the Pacific Northwest has been saying, Zillow CEO Rich Barton coined the term “The Great Reshuffling” as people move amid the pandemic and Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson recently stated we now have “The Great Human Reconnection”. It is at that intersection that we now find more leadership and once again its from the Pacific Northwest, and that company is once again Amazon.
